چکیده

ASPIRIN poisoning is responsible for over 200 deaths per annum in England and Wales. Forced alkaline diuresis is advocated to hasten renal elimination of the drug when plasma salicylate levels exceed 500 mg/l, whilst charcoal haemoperfusion is the treatment of choice when plasma salicylate levels exceed 900 mg/kg.' This severity of poisoning causes gross respiratory, metabolic and coagulation disturbances, usually requiring cardiovascular and respiratory support.2 Conventional low frequency, high volume ventilation is known to impair venous return and cardiac output, so that if respiratory support is needed this type of ventilation may further compromise the cardiovascular system.3 4 High frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) is an effective means of controlling ventilation without impairing cardiac output and was successfully used in this case to support respiration in a hypotensive patient suffering from aspirin poisoning.5

Aprospective randomized study comparing respiratory efficacy of percutaneous transtracheal and endotracheal, low-frequency jet ventilation during microlaryngeal surgery

Abstract Background: Transtracheal jet ventilation is an alternative ventilatory approach in airway surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare respiratory efficacy of percutaneous transtracheal with endotracheal, low frequency jet ventilation during microlaryngeal surgery. Methods: Ninety ASA class I-II patients aged between 16 and 70 years undergoing elective microlaryngeal surgery wer...

Use of high-frequency jet ventilation in neonates with hypoxemia refractory to high-frequency oscillatory ventilation.

OBJECTIVE To describe the response to high-frequency jet ventilation in infants with hypoxemic respiratory failure unresponsive to high-frequency oscillatory ventilation. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of chart records on demographics, ventilator settings, blood gas analysis and calculated oxygenation index prior to and during the first 7 days of high-frequency jet ventilation in t...

RESPIRATION AND THE AIRWAY Frequency dependence of lung volume changes during superimposed high-frequency jet ventilation and high-frequency jet ventilation

Editor’s key points † Superimposed high-frequency jet ventilation (SHFJV) involves simultaneous normal frequency (12–20 min) and high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) (.500 min). † SHFJV may improve ventilation and gas exchange compared with HFJValone, but the optimum frequencies for SHFJV are unknown. † In this animal model, end-expiratory and tidal volumes determined by opto-electronic plethy...

Manual jet ventilation v. high frequency jet ventilation during laser resection of tracheo-bronchial stenosis.

Manual jet ventilation (20 b.p.m.) and high frequency jet ventilation (300 b.p.m.) were compared during laser resection of tracheo-bronchial stenosis under general anaesthesia. Both methods provided similar blood-gas tensions at the 10th min of surgery in patients with tracheal stenosis. In patients with bronchial stenosis high frequency jet ventilation resulted in modest hypercarbia and manual...

Jet Ventilation during Rigid Bronchoscopy in Adults: A Focused Review

The indications for rigid bronchoscopy for interventional pulmonology have increased and include stent placements and transbronchial cryobiopsy procedures. The shared airway between anesthesiologist and pulmonologist and the open airway system, requiring specific ventilation techniques such as jet ventilation, need a good understanding of the procedure to reduce potentially harmful complication...
